  • SIS 793 Practicum Seminar: Cross-Cultural Collaboration in Global Virtual Teams: Disability, Development, and Diplomacy  

This interdisciplinary practicum explores the rapidly expanding practice of geographically distributed collaboration in international and regional organizations through virtual communities and teams. Students in AU's School of International Service, Syracuase University's iSchool and in the IDPP's CIDP Master's program, will learn how to build and evaluate global virtual teams and cross-cultural collaboration strategies to help leading international organizations accomplish their global strategic goals. A combination of theory and practice, geographically distributed students will work with real organizations throughout the duration of the course. Organizations include: The World Bank Group: Global Forum on Law, Justice, and Development; General Election Network for Disability Access; Asia-Pacific Development Center on Disability/UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific; and the International Council for Education of People with Visual Impairment.

 

  • SIS 419-036/628-009: Survey of International Telecommunication Policy and Global Information Society.

In this course, students look at public policy issues of the global digital environment, including freedom of expression, intellectual property and economic regulations, while applying economic, legal, and political science concepts to policy analysis.

 

  • SIS-695 Research and Practicum Seminar in International Communication: Qualitative, Quantitative and Mixed Methods Research Approaches

The primary goal of this seminar is to prepare students to conceptualize, design and present a Practicum Project or an academic thesis proposal by providing a comprehensive introduction to social science research methods and approaches applicable to a diverse range of interdisciplinary research interest.

The IDPP and its partner the University of Malaya's Centre for Continuing Education are collectively offering a virtual English language proficiency (ELP) course that provides students the opportunity to refine academic English language skills. The course uses a combination of real-time (synchronous) and on-demand (asynchronous) components. Students are able to improve their language anc communication skills in preparation for acceptance to the virtual Master's in Comparative and International Disability Policy (CIDP) program.
