Theme I: Global Governance, Transnational Networks, and Epistemic Communities

This research theme investigates the socio-technical infrastructure required to enhance the participation of developing countries and civil society organizations in global governance processes in information and communication policy. The theme uses an interdisciplinary social science approach to explore the institutional mechanisms for global governance and international regime formation for the internet, information, and communication technology, with a particular focus on epistemic communities and transnational policy networks. It also looks into significant factors that influence the development of transnational advocacy networks in global information, communication, and policy, and affect their linkages with epistemic communities.

Research Question: What are the mechanisms and implications of multi-stakeholder participation in global governance?
