Dr. Derrick L. Cogburn, COTELCO/IDPP executive director, received the American Political Science Association (APSA) and Pi Sigma Alpha Award for outstanding teaching in political science. The award was to be bestowed in person at the 2012 APSA Annual Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Each year, APSA presents the teaching award to a faculty member that exhibits teaching excellence in the field of political science. Dr. Cogburn is an associate professor of international relations at the School of International Service (SIS) at American University and the School of Information Studies (ischool) at Syracuse University.
Dr. Cogburn also received the Information, Technology and Politics (IPT) section's Outstanding
Software Development Award for IDPP Cyberinfrastructure. This award is bestowed on upon facutly whose leadership and research contributions have lead the development of software that has positively impacted the study of information communication techologies (ICTs).
Dr. Cogburn has dedicated his academic career to the study of global information and communication technology policy, and the use of information communication technology for socio-economic development.
Both awards were to be presented to Dr. Cogburn at a special reception at APSA’s Annual Meeting and Exhibition on 31 August 2012; however, the meeting was cancelled due to inclement weather.
